The horseriders of Kutch 2503
The horseriders of Kutch. (The story of Pir Dulesha) (AVAILABLE)
These 5 dynamic equestrian wooden sculptures were found in Kutch, in the far West of Gujarat, India. They tell the story of Pir Dulesha, a salesman with his assistant, who came to the rescue of a newly married couple who were atacked by bandits. After he died in the battle he was revered as a hero and became a symbol for the protection of young bridal couples. These wooden sculptures were given as a wedding gift and placed in the little house-shrines. Most likely they also play a role in the ancestor worship. 19th / 20th century. Approx. 32cm. € 450
