Pair of ‘Podya’ from Nanai people. Siberia. This pair of dolls were used by the shaman. They were initiated and animated through shamanic rituals (shown by the beads) and made for protection against deceases. We know that the carver passed away and that there are no more traditional carvers in this area. No more shamans are working there. Collected from a village in Nanaysky district near Amursk, on the banks of the river Amur. 20th century. Ex. coll. Egor Perepelyuk, Russia. Please ask for price.
