An old and well-used mask from Humla, West Nepal. (32cm.)
Made of hard, heavy solid wood.
Besides a very strong patina of intensive use, there are traces of ‘sindoor’ powder (vermilion) to add a charge. (to make the object more powerful.)
In Nepal this powder is a symbol of purity. Also used for the tika during festival and after visiting the temple.
Approx. 19th / early 20th century.
Collected in Kathmandu, Nepal.
