Nepal rider PAH21197

A votive altar piece. Jajarkot, West Nepal. Riders are a frequent theme in the sculptural primal art of West Nepal. We still don’t know the exact meaning. (19x17cm) Riders on horses, elephants, snakes, goats, roosters, cows, bulls, donkeys and undefined animals. 1st half 20th century. Collected in Kathmandu.

The almost childlike implementation of this sculpture, in combination with a free sense for dimension, makes this object a great artwork.
