An expressive ceremonial puppet with elongated movable arms. (48cm) Ibibio, Akwa Ibom state, Southwest Nigeria. These puppets are used in the Ekon society, every 7 years in ritual theatrical performances. The rings around the middle and the wrists show the tension in the object and is holding the dress during the ritual. Some wear on the rear-side. 1st half 20th century.
