Altar piece of elephant with rider. Riders are a frequent theme in Nepali ‘primal art’. On cows, bulls, birds, horses and elephants. Usually, elephants relate to the Terai, the lowlands of Nepal, bordering India. As this one. The shrine figure accumulated a patina of soot and all kind of sacrificial material. Tharu, Terai, Nepal.
