“ANIMATED FORMS”
Group of 3 ghurras with phallic form.
A ‘ghurra’ keeps the churning-rod on its place during the churning of the milk. The Hindu and Buddhist Nepali beliefs in the myth that ‘man & woman’ were created after the Gods churned the primal ocean. So what Darwin said 150 years ago; that all life came from the ocean, the Nepalis know this since thousands of years. The ghurra depicts often scenes from daily life or can have beautiful abstract messages. Sometimes they are anthropomorphic, or phallic. Very often they obtain beautiful wear and patina, because of their intensive use. The huge variety and affordability of these objects, makes them an interesting collecting subject. Thick layer of use-patine. 1st half 20thcentury. Collected in Kathmandu, Nepal.
Size: 30, 32, 33cm.
