Geringsing, cotton double ikat from Tenganan, Bali. (205cm) ‘Wayan Putri’. 19th / 20th c. Dutch private collection. Some local repairs.This highly valued sacred cloth was made in one of the three Bali Aga villages on the island. With the double ikat weaving method, the design is caried by the weft as well as the warp. This technique was only used in Gujarat India, Japan and the village of Tenganan. When I was visiting the village, 3 years ago, there were no women anymore weaving these textiles. Please ask for price.
